Session 1: Genius Hour
Drive your passion with a guided question and research to design an end project to share at the end of 12 weeks.
Session 1.5: Wonder Robotics Competition
An extended 12-16 week session where students complete five missions to compete internationally and win a spot at regionals.
Session 2: Rube Goldeburg
Create a design composed of simple machines and chain reactions to share at the end of the session.
Session 3: Wonder Robotics
Learn how to code robots Dash and Dot with task cards and a culminating activity to show off to parents!
Our second Robotics session sure was a hit! Thank you to Mrs. Garcia and Ms. Smith for supporting these learners, but most importantly - thanks to our 3-5th graders who were engaged in coding this Winter! We sure enjoyed watching you problem-solve, create, and discover ways to code with Dash and Dot.
The last couple weeks have been busy! Students have learned a few different applications for coding as well as learning how to write code. Students work through different levels of coding through challenge cards. The levels cover skills such as: sequences, loops, events, conditionals, functions, and variables. We have worked through sequences, loops, and events so far in our challenge cards. This makes the learning fun as well as provide them with real tasks you might ask a human to do. For example, our robots have been programmed to take out the "trash" or have a conversation. Today, students are making predictions on which coding patterns and sequences are necessary to complete a challenge. Then they put their ideas to the test. The students have learned a lot so far and will be preparing soon to create their own mission/story for our parent share night.
We kicked off our first GATE session today after-school. It was a FULL session of about 30 students involved in coding Wonder Robots called Dash and Dot. They programmed these robots using the iPads. With a little exploration and time to practice, students were able to demo a few of the things they learned about Dash and Dot today to wrap up our session. It was a great day and here are a few photos to share. Click on each photo to view the full image!
